Choosing the right newborn photographer is hard, right? You are trusting your new little bundle to someone in those first precious few days after birth. Its ok I got ya, here are the top 5 questions to ask.
Question 1: What baby safety measures do you take?
This question is no. 1 on my list for a reason! It should be at the top of any newborn photographers priorities. It is important to choose a photographer who has plenty of experience photographing babies, with all the appropriate tools.
Question 2: What is the best age to photograph a newborn?
The reality is most first time parents have no idea that newborn photographers recommend the session take place before two weeks of age. Now this is a guide, I have done plenty of session when baby is older than this for a number of reasons - it might just mean navigating a growth spurt or the baby might be awake for more of the session.
Question 3: How long does the session take?
Knowing what the reasonable number of setups the photographer can achieve is important and photographers will generally give you a guide on how long these sessions will take. Obviously this also depends on babys temperament on the day and their own comfort level with certain poses.
Question 4: Do you provide props/wardrobe, can we bring any of our own?
The answer to this question typically depends on the type of newborn session you want and the type of photographer you book. For lifestyle sessions props are kept to a minimal, for studio sessions generally everything is set up ready to go for when you arrive. Studio photographers generally have a varied assortment of props, outfits and lighting.
Question 5: Do you include family and/or sibling poses?
The answer it all depends on the photographer you book. Some specialise only in newborns and that is it, some include siblings and family poses if required, possibly included in the session fee or for an added extra fee. If family images are important to you please make sure to ask your photographer what their policy is on these.
I hope these help you navigate newborn session if you are looking for one. Please reach out for any help or if you would like my newborn session guide by sending me a message - Click here
